Adora Cruises has announced a strategic partnership with Shanghai Mobile to integrate advanced 5G communication technology into its second newbuild, the Adora Flora City, according to a press release.

The collaboration aims to elevate onboard communication capabilities, transforming the Flora City into what the company describes as “a globally leading smart ship.” The partnership will focus on implementing cutting-edge technologies to enhance guest convenience and connectivity throughout their journey.

The Adora Flora City will feature foundational communication and digital transmission services, alongside Internet of Things (IoT) applications and live broadcasting powered by 5G. Additionally, Adora Cruises and Shanghai Mobile plan to jointly conduct research projects to explore innovative technologies within the cruise industry.

One such project will focus on using big data to develop artificial intelligence (AI) systems capable of delivering personalized services to passengers. “With the continuous advancement of technologies such as 5G, AI, and the Internet of Things, innovative digital technologies will provide us with diverse cultural and travel experiences, creating more application scenarios,” Adora Cruises stated.

This agreement follows Adora’s earlier deployment of 5G capabilities aboard the Adora Magic City in collaboration with Shanghai Telecom. “We are honored to reach this strategic cooperation with Shanghai Mobile, injecting new technological momentum into the construction of Adora Flora City,” the company added.

Shanghai Mobile also expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We aim to provide users with high-quality communication services and digital experiences. Our collaboration with Adora Cruises will mark a new starting point in exploring the applications of 5G and smart technology.”

Scheduled to launch in 2027, the Adora Flora City is currently under construction at a CSSC shipyard in Shanghai, China. The 5,300-passenger vessel will be a sister ship to the 2023-built Adora Magic City and will offer cruises departing from Guangzhou.
