Aggregate Carrier Sana Partially Sinks Off Kish Island

On September 24, the aggregate carrier Sana partially sank in the Persian Gulf, roughly two miles south of Kish Island, Iran. All nine crew members were safely rescued by Iranian authorities.
The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. local time while the vessel was transporting 2,500 tons of white cement from Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, to Shuaiba, Kuwait. Reports indicate the ship suffered severe water ingress, causing it to list heavily. A distress call was issued and quickly answered by Iranian responders.
Rescue Vessel No. 16 was dispatched and successfully evacuated the entire crew without injuries.
Authorities have since launched an investigation to identify the cause of the accident. Concerns remain over possible environmental risks, including pollutants that could be released into surrounding waters from the stricken vessel.
