Aqmaris Orders Four Ultramax Bulkers at Wuhu Shipyard
Turkish shipping newcomer Aqmaris has finalized a contract with China’s Wuhu Shipyard for the construction of four ultramax bulk carriers, marking one of the first major newbuilding deals for the Istanbul-based company.
The vessels, each with a deadweight of 64,500 tons, will be built to IMO Tier III requirements and comply with EEDI Phase III standards, the latest benchmark for environmental efficiency. They will also be equipped for high-voltage shore power connections and designed to allow future installation of lithium-ion battery systems, capabilities increasingly viewed by owners as key to long-term fleet readiness.
Aqmaris Ship Management is a relatively recent entrant to the global shipping market. Based in Istanbul and registered in 2025 according to commercial data, the company has moved quickly to establish its presence. It has already taken delivery of its first 64,500 dwt newbuilding and is reported to have additional projects underway with COSCO Zhoushan Shipyard, alongside the agreement with Wuhu.
The company’s business model includes owning, chartering, and operating dry bulk vessels worldwide, covering both bareboat and time-charter arrangements, with the option to trade under the Turkish flag.
For Wuhu Shipyard, the order from Aqmaris adds momentum following a series of recent newbuilding contracts secured from international owners.
The four vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2028. The agreement includes two firm orders and two optional units, while financial details of the deal have not been disclosed.
