On October 2, the Canadian-flagged self-discharging bulk carrier Manitoulin ran aground in the St. Lawrence River near Cardinal, Canada. Authorities confirmed that no injuries or environmental pollution occurred as a result of the grounding.
The vessel sustained damage to its hull, which led to minor water ingress. Despite the incident, the Manitoulin was able to proceed under its own power to the Iroquois Lock, where it was secured for inspection.
Officials conducted a thorough assessment of the ship’s hull to ensure there was no structural compromise. After being cleared by inspectors, the bulk carrier was granted permission to resume its voyage later the same day.
