Cargo Ship Eileen Sinks in Black Sea, Crew Safely Rescued

The general cargo vessel Eileen sank in the Black Sea on October 12 following severe water ingress. All crew members safely evacuated to life rafts and were later rescued by a Turkish vessel.
According to reports, Eileen sent a distress call around 1:00 p.m. local time after the crew discovered flooding onboard. The captain then ordered an immediate evacuation, directing the crew to abandon ship and board life rafts.
The incident occurred within Ukraine’s Search and Rescue (SAR) zone. Ukrainian authorities quickly reached out to Turkey’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) in Ankara for assistance.
Responding to the call, the Turkish-flagged vessel Murat Ilhan located and retrieved the stranded crew from their life rafts. Officials confirmed that all rescued seafarers were in good condition and have since been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further assistance.
