On September 1, the Barbados-flagged general cargo vessel Hagrid, carrying 13 crew members, ran aground at the port of Mantoudi, Greece. The grounding occurred after the ship loaded 5,002 metric tons of white stone and was departing for Ireland when it struck the sandy seabed.

Authorities confirmed that no injuries or pollution were reported, and the pier sustained only minor surface damage.

The Hellenic Coast Guard launched an investigation and arrested the vessel’s captain on charges of “Causing a shipwreck” under article 277 of the Greek Criminal Code and “Damage to another’s property” under article 378.

The ship has been detained at Mantoudi until a classification society verifies its seaworthiness.
