CMA CGM Ermitage Collides with Quay Wall in Hamburg

On May 11, the container ship CMA CGM Ermitage collided with a quay wall along the Elbe River in Hamburg, Germany. Fortunately, no injuries or pollution were reported as a result of the incident.

The collision occurred around midday while the vessel was traveling from Bremerhaven to Hamburg. According to reports, the ship had to execute a sharp maneuver to avoid hitting a small motor yacht, which led to its impact with the quay wall.

The incident caused visible damage to the quay structure and also affected a nearby gantry crane.

The CMA CGM Ermitage is a Malta-flagged container ship that entered service in 2024. It measures 204.2 meters in length, has a beam of 29.6 meters, and a gross tonnage of 32,245.

Authorities have not yet released further details about potential investigations or operational disruptions at the port following the collision.
