The container ship Mercosul Fortaleza, operated by CMA CGM, ran aground in the Amazon River near Óbidos, Brazil, on the afternoon of October 24 while sailing from Suape to the Port of Macapá.

The vessel became stuck along the muddy riverbank surrounded by dense jungle. According to early reports, there have been no injuries or signs of pollution. Authorities remain on site to monitor potential environmental hazards and to check for any fuel or cargo leaks.

Local officials have launched an investigation to determine what caused the grounding.
