CO2 Tanker Embla Hits Lock Wall in Kiel Canal

The CO2 tanker Embla collided with the center wall of a lock in Brunsbüttel on Germany’s Kiel Canal, resulting in minor damage but no injuries or pollution.

The incident occurred on May 5th at around 1:25 PM local time. The Embla was sailing from Kiel to Hamburg when it allided with a wall on the new southern lock in Brunsbüttel as it was traversing the Kiel Canal.

The wall of the lock is said to have sustained minor damage, and the vessel itself suffered scraped paint. Fortunately, the damage was minor, and there were no reports of any injuries, pollution, or water ingress on the vessel.

The Brunsbüttel water police have launched an investigation into the incident.

The Embla is a Norwegian-flagged CO2 tanker that was built in 2005. The vessel has a length of 82.5 meters, a beam of 12.6 meters, and a gross tonnage of 2,506.
