Collision Between Container Ship and Russian Rescue Vessel

On May 20th, a container vessel struck the Russian-flagged salvage and rescue ship Spasatel Karev during docking maneuvers on the Neva River. The collision took place at berth 94, operated by OOO Basis Port in St. Petersburg.
Fortunately, there were no injuries or environmental damage reported as a result of the incident. Early reports indicate that challenging weather conditions may have played a role in the accident.
Russia’s North-West Transport Prosecutor’s Office has initiated a formal inquiry, while the St. Petersburg Transport Prosecutor’s Office is conducting a separate review focused on adherence to maritime safety regulations. Authorities have not yet released the name of the container ship involved.
