Container Ship Grounds Near Home in Trondheim Fjord

The Cypriot-flagged container ship NCL Salten, with a capacity of 886 TEU, ran aground overnight in Norway’s Trondheim fjord, coming to rest just meters from a residential home on the shoreline.
The vessel, operated by North Sea Container Line, did not report any injuries or oil leakage. The only noted damage was a broken outdoor heating pipe at the nearby home. Authorities have yet to determine what led to the grounding, and an official investigation is underway.
The Norwegian Coastal Administration, in collaboration with the ship’s owner, has assumed responsibility for the salvage effort. Several tugboats are currently in the vicinity and ready to assist in refloating the vessel.
Remarkably, the homeowner—identified by local news outlets as Johan Helberg—was unaware of the incident as it happened. He later stated that he had been sleeping just seven meters from where the vessel’s bow had grounded outside his home.
