The COSCO Shipping–operated container ship COSCO Shipping Carnation was supplied with 200 tonnes of green methanol on January 21, using China’s first dual-fuel methanol bunkering vessel, Daqing 268.

The methanol was provided by CIMC Enric Green Energy Low-Carbon Technology (Guangdong) Co., Ltd. (CIMC Enric). The fuel originated from the company’s newly launched production facility, which began operations on December 16 last year and has an annual production capacity of 50,000 tonnes. The plant produces methanol from biomass sources such as tree bark and straw. The fuel reaches a purity level of 99.99%, delivers an estimated 85% reduction in lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions, and is certified under ISCC EU standards with full carbon traceability.

Daqing 268 is a 7,500 dwt bunkering vessel with a cargo capacity of 10,362 cubic meters. The ship is equipped with a methanol dual-fuel engine and is designed to carry both oil and chemical products. Its dual-fuel configuration allows for significantly lower carbon emissions compared to conventional systems.

COSCO Shipping Carnation, which received the fuel, is a 16,000 teu container vessel also fitted with methanol dual-fuel propulsion. The ship is equipped with methanol fuel tanks totaling 11,000 cubic meters in capacity, allowing it to undertake longer voyages powered by green methanol.
