The Costa Smeralda, operated by Costa Cruises, arrived at Chantiers Naval de Marseille on Tuesday for a planned dry dock period.

Now more than six years into service, the vessel is undergoing its second dry dock since its 2019 delivery from Meyer Turku. During the stay, classification society inspectors will conduct comprehensive checks on the ship’s major safety systems and technical components.

Alongside these inspections, the Smeralda is set to receive various upgrades. Typical dry dock work includes hull cleaning and repainting, updated flooring, new furnishings and additional maintenance tasks that require the ship to be taken out of service.

All work is scheduled to be completed by December 11, 2025. The ship is expected to resume sailing the next day, December 12, departing from Savona, Italy. For the winter season, Costa Smeralda will operate week long itineraries in the Western Mediterranean.
