Crew Member Dies In Tragic Accident Aboard P&O’s Arvia
A crew member has died following a tragic workplace accident aboard P&O Cruises’ Arvia on October 26, just two days after the ship departed Southampton for a transatlantic sailing to Bridgetown, Barbados.
P&O Cruises confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that details are still being investigated. The company expressed its deepest condolences, adding that full support is being provided to the crew member’s family and colleagues who are mourning the loss of their friend.
According to local authorities in Spain, the Arvia made an unscheduled stop in La Coruña on Sunday in response to the emergency. Fire crews and other responders boarded the vessel and remained on site for several hours while it was docked throughout the afternoon and evening. The ship later continued its journey toward Tenerife. Guests were informed of the situation by the captain once the vessel reached port, with many describing a subdued and reflective atmosphere onboard.
Media outlets reported that the crew member, a Filipino national, suffered fatal injuries in an elevator-related accident. Official findings have not yet been disclosed, as multiple agencies continue to investigate the cause of the incident.
