Crews Warned Singapore Enforces Tougher Penalties on Vaping

Singapore has introduced significantly tougher rules against vaping, with stricter penalties for the possession or use of e-cigarettes effective September 1, 2025. The measures apply to everyone, including foreign visitors and seafarers transiting through airports or calling at the Port of Singapore.
Under the revised law, first-time offenders carrying e-vaporisers will face a S$700 fine, while repeat violations may result in penalties of up to S$2,000. Authorities also have the power to impose rehabilitation programs, deport offenders, and even issue permanent bans on re-entry. Random checks will be carried out to ensure compliance.
For seafarers, the government’s message is clear: do not pack e-vaporisers in luggage, do not purchase them locally, and do not use them while in Singapore. Even accidental possession can result in severe consequences, potentially endangering safety, employment, and the ability to continue working at sea.
The new rules are part of a coordinated national push to curb vaping and protect public health. For seafarers, respecting these laws is a matter of both individual responsibility and maintaining professional reputation.
