Cruise Lines Alter Routes as Hurricane Erin Advances

Cruise lines are continuing to revise their itineraries in response to Hurricane Erin, which strengthened into a Category 4 storm as it moved across the Atlantic on Monday.
Among the latest changes, the MSC World America, delivered in 2025, has shifted its schedule. The ship had been slated to sail a seven-night Eastern Caribbean voyage this week but will instead head to the Western Caribbean.
“Due to Hurricane Erin and adverse weather forecasts, your cruise itinerary requires immediate adjustment,” MSC Cruises said in a statement issued onboard. “Our proactive decision prioritizes the safety and comfort of our guests and crew, ensuring a secure journey.”
As a result, calls at San Juan and Puerto Plata have been replaced with stops in Cozumel and Costa Maya, while a planned visit to Ocean Cay in the Bahamas remains unchanged.
Royal Caribbean International also altered the itinerary of the Liberty of the Seas, which had departed Port Liberty on Saturday for a five-night Bermuda cruise. With its call at King’s Wharf cancelled, the 2008-built ship will instead make an overnight stop in Halifax, Canada.
Additional vessels have adjusted course in recent days. Royal Caribbean’s Vision of the Seas and Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Sunshine both cancelled scheduled calls in Bermuda to steer clear of the storm.
Other changes include the Disney Treasure, which switched from an Eastern to a Western Caribbean sailing, while Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Aqua and Norwegian Jewel also modified itineraries to avoid Erin’s projected path.
