Two cruise ships were delayed from reaching Tampa on Monday after heavy fog restricted inbound traffic at the port.

The Margaritaville at Sea Islander and the Carnival Paradise were returning from Caribbean itineraries and had been scheduled to dock early in the morning.

Margaritaville at Sea said the Islander’s arrival was pushed back by at least six hours due to the weather. The company advised guests to postpone their trips to the port and noted that more information would be shared as updates became available.

“We thank you for your patience and understanding as we adjust for weather-related conditions and prioritize the safety of all guests and crew,” the company stated.

By early afternoon, Margaritaville at Sea said the United States Coast Guard and the Port Tampa Bay Pilot Association had confirmed that visibility was improving.

“As a result, we are able to confirm a tentative arrival time for guests departing aboard the Margaritaville at Sea Islander,” the company added.

The Islander is scheduled to operate a four night cruise to Mexico as part of its year round service from Tampa.

Carnival’s Brand Ambassador John Heald also confirmed that the CarnivalParadise experienced delays due to the fog. Carnival Cruise Line told guests not to head to the terminal until further notice.

The company later said the port had reopened but noted that it was still awaiting confirmation of the ship’s arrival time.

“I know this is very disappointing for those people waiting to get on the ship, so in advance, thank you for your patience,” Heald said.

The Carnival Paradise will continue with a five night Western Caribbean sailing that includes stops in Mexico and the Cayman Islands.
