Engine Fire Breaks Out on Dutch Barge Near Lelystad

A fire erupted on August 3 in the engine room of the inland cargo barge Triangle while it was navigating the Markermeer near Oostvaardersdijk, Lelystad, en route to Schokkerhaven in the Netherlands. The crew attempted to extinguish the growing blaze but were unsuccessful in containing it.
A distress signal was sent out, triggering a rapid response from the local fire department and the Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KNRM). Multiple firefighting units and a KNRM lifeboat were dispatched to the vessel's location.
The coordinated emergency response team managed to extinguish the fire shortly after arriving on scene. Though early assessments raised concerns about possible propulsion failure due to the fire's location, follow-up inspections revealed that the Triangle was able to continue its journey under its own power later that day.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether any injuries were sustained, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
