Fire Breaks Out on Bulk Carrier Altay in Hull Dock

On June 27th, a serious fire ignited on the bulk carrier Altay while it was docked at Albert Dock in Hull, UK. The blaze began around 10:22 a.m. BST in the ship’s cargo hold, which was loaded with scrap metal at the time.
Thick grey smoke billowed over Hull’s city centre, triggering a swift emergency response. Humberside Fire and Rescue Service quickly mobilized, sending four fire engines, an aerial ladder platform, and receiving assistance from the Hull Coastguard Rescue Team. Firefighters remain on scene, working to extinguish the flames.
As a precaution, local authorities advised nearby residents and businesses to keep windows and doors shut to minimize smoke exposure.
A spokesperson from the fire service confirmed that everyone aboard the vessel was safe and accounted for, with no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
