A blaze erupted aboard a bulk carrier on the evening of February 18 while the vessel was alongside and discharging cargo at the Port of Vancouver in Canada.

Local fire services received a report at around 9:00 p.m. concerning a fire inside one of the ship’s cargo holds. The vessel was transporting shredded metal at the time of the incident.

Before emergency crews reached the scene, the ship’s crew had already initiated onboard firefighting systems and implemented containment procedures. When firefighters arrived, they saw flames and smoke rising from the cargo hold, with unloading activities still in progress.

The fire was later brought under control, and no injuries or fatalities were reported. Authorities in Vancouver have begun investigating the cause of the incident.
