Hamburg Prepares for 837th Port Anniversary Celebration
Hamburg will mark the its port’s 837th anniversary from May 8 to 10, 2026. Around one million visitors from across the world are expected to gather along the Elbe River, stretching from the fish auction hall and the Landungsbrücken to the Speicherstadt, Sandtorhafen, and the Oevelgönne museum harbor.
The event program features well-known traditions such as the arrival and departure parades and the famous tugboat ballet. Visitors can also enjoy evening performances and a large fireworks display, along with new attractions both on the water and throughout the city.
The official opening takes place on Friday, May 8, at 1:30 p.m. with the Grand Arrival Parade. During this ceremony, more than 100 vessels will sail along the Elbe in front of spectators gathered along the riverbanks.
One of the highlights will be the impressive Norwegian three-masted barque Statsraad Lehmkuhl. The tall ship will be joined by modern emergency vessels operated by the Federal Police, DGzRS, Fire Brigade, Fisheries Protection, Navy, Water Police, and Customs.
Also participating are advanced research vessels such as Atair, Coriolis, and Vektor, along with the innovative multi-purpose vessel Neuwerk. The parade will also include elegant motor yachts, sailing boats, and carefully restored traditional and museum ships, each representing a part of maritime history.
The floating Elbe stage near the Landungsbrücken serves as the central performance venue for the festivities. The event series Elbe in Concert offers live music and dynamic performances, creating a vibrant atmosphere against the nighttime harbor skyline.
Live shows will begin at 8 p.m. on Friday and at 9 p.m. on Saturday, filling the harbor with music and entertainment.
On Saturday evening, guests can look forward to an international live show featuring major musical acts and stage performances. The cruise ship AIDAperla will appear as a special guest during the event.
