Hapag-Lloyd’s terminals and infrastructure arm, Hanseatic Global Terminals (HGT), has reached an agreement with Chilean shipping and logistics group Grupo Empresas Navieras (GEN) to acquire full ownership of Florida International Terminal (FIT).

The transaction was finalized with GEN’s affiliate Agunsa Universales (AGUNSA USA) and results in a revised capital structure for the Port Everglades facility, giving Hanseatic Global Terminals sole control. AGUNSA USA consolidates GEN’s US-based port, logistics, and towage activities.

Located at Port Everglades in South Florida, FIT is a key gateway serving one of the world’s largest consumer markets. The terminal handles both containerized and general cargo. HGT said the acquisition strengthens its presence in North America and enhances its position at a port that is becoming increasingly important for US trade flows, particularly into the Southeast.

The Florida transaction represents another milestone in HGT’s long-term growth strategy, as shipping line-backed terminal operators continue to secure capacity and operational control at strategic ports. Hanseatic Global Terminals was established in 2023 as a standalone business within the Hapag-Lloyd Group, dedicated to terminals and infrastructure. Headquartered in Rotterdam, the company plans to expand its portfolio from 21 terminals today to around 30 worldwide by the end of the decade.
