Hong Kong Completes First Green Methanol Bunkering
Hong Kong carried out its first green methanol bunkering operation on March 5, when the dual-fuel chemical tanker Da Qing 268 supplied fuel to CM Hong Kong, the world’s first methanol dual-fuel Ro-Ro vessel.
A ceremony was held to mark the milestone, with attendance from senior government representatives and leading stakeholders from the shipping, energy, equipment manufacturing, finance, and industrial sectors.
Around 500 tonnes of green methanol used in the bunkering operation were supplied by CIMC Enric and delivered through Sinopec’s distribution network.
The successful fueling operation highlights the establishment of a full green methanol supply chain, covering production, storage, transportation, bunkering, and final use. It also signals that Hong Kong is prepared to support green methanol as part of the next stage in sustainable marine fuel supply.
