Between the night of July 6 and the morning of July 7, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out a wave of aerial assaults targeting Houthi-controlled sites throughout Yemen.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Nadav Shoshani, IDF’s International Spokesperson, the strikes were directed at critical Houthi military infrastructure, including facilities at the ports of Hodeidah, Ras Isa, and Salif, along with the Ras Kanatib power plant.

One of the key targets was the Galaxy Leader, a commercial ship flagged under the Bahamas that was seized by Houthi forces on November 19, 2023. The vessel’s multinational crew—comprising 17 Filipinos, 2 Mexicans, 2 Bulgarians, 3 Ukrainians, and 1 Romanian—was held hostage for over a year until their release on January 22, 2025.

The IDF reported that the Houthis had outfitted the Galaxy Leader, anchored at Ras Isa, with a radar system. The equipment was allegedly used to track maritime traffic in international waters and assist with planning terrorist operations.

Another significant site targeted in the operation was the Ras Kanatib power station, which Israel described as a vital energy source supporting Houthi military efforts.

The strikes were launched in retaliation for ongoing Houthi attacks against Israel and underscored the Israeli military’s concerns about the Houthis' use of civilian locations to support military and terrorist activities.

At this time, no official information has been released regarding casualties or the full scope of the destruction caused by the raids.
