India and Singapore have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to create a Green and Digital Shipping Corridor (GDSC) linking the two nations. The agreement was formalized on September 4 in New Delhi, witnessed by the Prime Ministers of both countries.

Under the partnership, the two nations will work with industry stakeholders to build infrastructure and introduce technologies that support the transition to fuels with zero or near-zero greenhouse gas emissions. The GDSC also includes provisions for sharing digital data and conducting joint research into sustainable maritime technologies and solutions.

The initiative has two main goals: advancing digitalization in shipping and reducing its environmental impact.

India’s robust renewable energy sector and manufacturing capacity give it a strong foundation for producing and exporting alternative marine fuels. Meanwhile, Singapore’s status as a leading global port with advanced bunkering capabilities and maritime innovation expertise positions it as a key partner in driving the project forward.
