A norovirus outbreak has affected nearly 200 passengers aboard the cruise ship Artania, prompting emergency health measures during its voyage to the Norwegian fjords. The ship had set sail from Bremerhaven on a 14-day cruise and was heading toward Brønnøysund, Norway, when the outbreak occurred.

According to health officials, the number of infected individuals rose sharply from around 50 cases on Tuesday to approximately 200 by the following day. Passengers showing symptoms have been quarantined in an effort to contain the virus. Operated by Phoenix Reisen, the Artania can accommodate roughly 1,200 passengers.

The outbreak has been officially confirmed by local authorities. Remi Solberg of Arctic Guide Service Lofoten AS told the Norwegian news outlet iFinnmark that the incident is under control. In response, an additional doctor and nurse have boarded the vessel to reinforce the ship's existing medical staff.
