Norwegian Breakaway Returns to NYC Early Due to Winter Storm
Norwegian Breakaway arrived back in New York City one day ahead of schedule as a winter weather system impacted its planned itinerary.
The Norwegian Cruise Line ship was concluding an 11-night Caribbean voyage and is now expected to dock at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal on Monday, February 2, 2026.
In a letter sent to guests onboard, the cruise line said the schedule was adjusted to ensure a safer and more seamless return to the U.S. Northeast.
“As we continue our journey north onboard the Norwegian Breakaway, we want to keep you fully informed about a change,” the message stated.
“A large winter system moving through the eastern United States and the North Atlantic is affecting our ability to return to New York City on the original schedule and is making it challenging to maintain the speed needed for our planned turnaround,” Norwegian explained.
Due to these conditions, Norwegian cancelled a scheduled stop in St. Thomas that was originally planned for Friday, January 30, 2026. Instead, the ship proceeded directly to New York City after completing its visit to St. Maarten on January 29.
“This adjustment helps us on a smoother path north. While this isn’t the itinerary we originally planned, it does mean you’ll enjoy extra time in New York City, including an overnight stay,” the company added.
Norwegian noted that the added time in port would allow guests to “wrap up their vacation on a high note.”
All shore excursions booked through the cruise line for St. Thomas were cancelled, with full refunds issued to guests’ onboard accounts.
Norwegian Breakaway departed New York on January 23, 2026, for its Caribbean sailing. Along with St. Maarten, the itinerary included calls in Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, San Juan in Puerto Rico, and Tortola in the British Virgin Islands.
