A passenger traveling aboard the cruise ship AIDAperla was evacuated early Tuesday morning after experiencing a heart attack while the vessel was sailing near Bonaire.

The Coast Guard reported that its Maritime Operations Center received an urgent call from the cruise ship requesting immediate medical support. The individual involved was identified as a 37-year-old German national who was in need of rapid medical intervention.

Upon receiving the distress call, personnel at the operations center contacted a CITRO physician to review the case alongside the ship’s onboard medical staff. After evaluating the situation, the doctor determined that the passenger required immediate evacuation and hospital treatment.

Acting on this medical advice, the Coast Guard dispatched a rescue helicopter to the vessel. The passenger was successfully lifted from the ship and transported to land, where emergency medical services were waiting.

He was then taken by ambulance to a hospital for further care. No further information has been shared by authorities regarding his condition.

At the time of the incident, AIDAperla was operating a 14-day Caribbean itinerary that began in Barbados.
