Passenger Rescued After Jumping from AIDAnova in Baltic

An 18-year-old cruise guest was successfully rescued after leaping overboard from the AIDAnova while it was sailing through the Baltic Sea. The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. as the vessel, which had approximately 6,600 passengers and crew onboard, was making its way to Copenhagen.
Upon sounding the “man overboard” alert, the ship came to a stop and reversed course under difficult conditions, facing wind force six. In an unusual move, the captain requested that passengers assist in the nighttime search by using their phone flashlights from their balconies. Lifeboats were also deployed, illuminating the water with spotlights. Thanks to the combined efforts of crew and guests, the overboard passenger was located, rescued alive, and given immediate medical attention onboard.
Following the rescue, a full muster drill and headcount were conducted, with the situation declared under control by 4:00 a.m. The ship then continued its scheduled route. AIDA Cruises acknowledged the event in a statement but declined to release further specifics.
According to Danish authorities, the teen had consumed a significant amount of alcohol and had earlier made jokes about jumping into the sea before following through.
