Royal Caribbean Donates $40K to Support Seafarers in Norway

Royal Caribbean Group has made a $40,000 donation to the Norwegian Seaman’s Mission, further demonstrating its ongoing commitment to the well-being of seafarers and support for local port communities.
The funds will be distributed among Seafarers’ Welfare Centres in four Norwegian cities—Ålesund, Bergen, Honningsvåg, and Stavanger. These centers serve thousands of seafarers, including cruise crew members, who visit Norway’s ports each year. The facilities provide free resources and a welcoming environment, helping crew members feel at home while far from their own.
“Seafarers play a crucial role in the global maritime and cruise industry, and we are honored to support the Seaman's Mission in Norway with this donation,” said Laura Hodges Bethge, president of Celebrity Cruises, during her visit to the Ålesund centre. “Our crew members are the heart of the guest experience, and this is one way to give back to them and all seafarers who keep the industry moving.”
The donation will enhance a variety of services offered by the Mission, including:
- Complimentary Wi-Fi and communications access
- Cultural and educational programming
- Leisure and wellness activities
- Peaceful areas for relaxation
- Free local transportation and crew assistance
These offerings are designed to ease the challenges of seafaring life, providing opportunities for rest, connection, and personal growth.
“Everything we provide is free of charge for the crew,” said Pål Vigmostad, Chairman of the Norwegian Seaman’s Mission. “We are deeply grateful that one of the world’s largest cruise companies is taking such significant responsibility in helping sustain these centers for the global seafaring community.”
The announcement was welcomed by Monica Molvær, Deputy Mayor of Ålesund, who emphasized the value of the cruise sector to Norway’s coastal towns.
“Having a place for the seamen and crew to relax and unwind is essential. We are very pleased that Royal Caribbean Group continues to support these centres and our community.”
