Royal Caribbean Expands Community Investment in Mahahual, Mexico

Royal Caribbean has announced plans to build the new Mahahual K’iin Community Center, a dedicated space designed to benefit residents of Mahahual, Mexico.

As the owner and operator of the Port of Costa Maya, the cruise company said it continues to invest in projects that support the local community and enhance everyday life for people living in the area.

The new development will expand on an existing community center that has served residents since 2014, creating additional space for educational programs, recreational activities, cultural events and community gatherings. The facility will also be located in a more accessible area to make it easier for local residents to use.

The center’s new name, Mahahual K’iin - meaning “the sun of Mahahual” - was chosen through a community vote.

Mahahual is an important community for Royal Caribbean, and the Mahahual K’iin Community Center reflects the long-term partnership we want to continue building here,” said Jason Liberty, Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group.

“This next phase is about turning commitment into action by creating a welcoming place where children can learn, families can gather and neighbors can connect.”

Planned for a central location in the town, the facility will feature modern, adaptable spaces for workshops, educational activities and events led by the local community. The project will also include new outdoor recreational amenities, including a soccer field as well as basketball and volleyball courts.
