Royal Caribbean Group Names Christopher J Wiernicki to Board

Royal Caribbean Group has announced the appointment of Christopher J. Wiernicki to its Board of Directors.

Wiernicki previously served as Chairman and CEO of the American Bureau of Shipping, where he held a range of senior leadership positions over a 14-year period. His roles included president and chief operating officer, chief technology officer, and president and chief operating officer of ABS Europe Ltd.

“Chris’ disciplined approach to growth, innovation, and responsible operations will be highly valuable as we continue our evolution as a global vacation leader,” said Jason Liberty, chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group.

“In addition, his deep marine industry expertise brings important perspective to our Board as we continue to scale responsibly.”

According to the company, Wiernicki brings more than 40 years of experience in marine and offshore design, along with extensive knowledge in areas such as operations, infrastructure and safety management, ports, bunkering, and related sectors.

He holds a master’s degree in ocean engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a master’s degree in structural engineering from George Washington University, and a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Vanderbilt University.

Before stepping down from ABS at the end of 2025, Wiernicki served as Chairman of the International Association of Classification Societies.

He is also a Fellow of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers and has served in senior advisory capacities on the White House National Infrastructure Advisory Council and the U.S. Marine Transportation Board.
