An offshore windfarm

Skyborn Renewables, the German offshore wind developer owned by BlackRock’s Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), has agreed to sell a 25% interest in the Gennaker offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea to Stadtwerke München.

The transaction is still subject to the usual regulatory approvals, while construction financing is expected to reach financial close during the third quarter of 2026.

Once operational, Gennaker will contribute up to 976.5 MW of offshore wind capacity to Germany’s power grid, making it the largest offshore wind project in the German Baltic Sea.

The wind farm is planned for a site around 15 kilometers north of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It is projected to generate enough clean electricity to supply approximately one million households each year.

Skyborn said the partnership will help advance the project into its next stage as it moves closer to construction.

The announcement follows the signing of a long-term power purchase agreement with Amazon last week. The agreement covers 600 MW of capacity and strengthens the project’s commercial foundation, supporting its progress toward the construction phase.

“This partnership is an important step for Gennaker as we move toward construction, and it reflects the shared ambition of both companies to help deliver large-scale offshore wind capacity in Germany,” said Patrick Lammer, CEO of Skyborn Renewables.
