Super Express Grounds After Tug Collision in Mykonos

The passenger Ro-Ro vessel Super Express was involved in an incident at the Port of Mykonos on May 26, when it collided with a tugboat during docking procedures and subsequently ran aground. Thankfully, there were no injuries or environmental damage reported.
The accident took place in the afternoon while the ship was being moored. Following the incident, port authorities in Mykonos immediately barred the vessel from departing. A thorough technical inspection and the issuance of a seaworthiness certificate are now required before the ship can resume service.
At the time of the grounding, Super Express was returning to Mykonos as part of its regular route from Rafina, with scheduled stops at Tinos, Paros, Ios, and Thira. Onboard were 158 passengers, 11 vehicles, and one motorcycle.
The Hellenic Coast Guard has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
