Tanker Zhong Fa Disabled After Engine Failure in Taiwan Strait

The Honduras flagged oil and chemical tanker Zhong Fa lost maneuvering ability while passing through the Taiwan Strait on December 21. The vessel was on its way to Fuzhou Port, China, when the incident occurred.
China’s Fujian Maritime Safety Administration (MSA) reported that the tanker experienced a main engine failure, triggering a navigational warning to ships in the vicinity.
Nearby vessels were instructed to keep a close watch and maintain a safe distance from the drifting tanker. Authorities have not yet released information regarding possible injuries, pollution risks or the status of any assistance efforts.
