On October 4, the Vietnamese fishing boat BD 83019-TS sank following a collision with the South Korean-flagged oil tanker MS Favor, resulting in the death of the vessel’s captain.

The accident occurred around 10:30 p.m. local time, roughly 30 kilometers southeast of the Ca Na estuary, amid low visibility conditions.

After the impact, the tanker reportedly continued its voyage without stopping to assist. Ten of the eleven crew members were rescued by another fishing vessel, BV 95869-TS, and later brought ashore to Ca Na Port for medical evaluation. The missing crew member, the captain of BD 83019-TS, was believed to have been trapped inside the cabin as the vessel sank.

Vietnam’s Gia Lai Border Guard Command initiated a search and rescue mission using six vessels to locate the missing captain. On October 6, divers located the wreck at a depth of 60 meters and recovered the captain’s body.

Local authorities have since opened an investigation into the collision.
