Attempted Boarding Reported off Somalia’s Coast
On November 3, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported an attempted boarding incident roughly 332 nautical miles east of Mogadishu, Somalia.
The vessel’s captain stated that four unknown individuals in a small boat approached and tried to climb aboard. The small craft was believed to be operating from a larger mothership situated about five nautical miles east of the ship’s location.
The crew reacted swiftly, firing warning shots as the grey-and-white-hulled craft retreated toward the mothership.
All crew members are confirmed safe, and the vessel has continued en route to its next scheduled port. Authorities have opened an investigation, and UKMTO has urged all ships in the region to stay alert and promptly report any unusual or suspicious behavior.
