Blue Star Chios Rescues 75 Migrants Near Karpathos

On June 1, the Ro-Ro passenger ferry Blue Star Chios carried out a successful rescue operation, saving 75 migrants from a distressed sailboat southeast of Karpathos, Greece.
The incident unfolded when a distress signal was sent from a sailboat located roughly 14.4 nautical miles off Karpathos’ southeastern coast in the Aegean Sea. Greek maritime authorities quickly mobilized a response.
The Unified Search and Rescue Coordination Center coordinated the mission, deploying a Hellenic Coast Guard vessel to assist. Several nearby ships also responded to the emergency alert.
Blue Star Chios, a Greek-flagged ferry transporting around 200 passengers at the time, diverted its course and safely brought all 75 individuals on board. Authorities confirmed that no injuries occurred during the rescue.
As of now, officials have not revealed the nationalities of the rescued individuals or where they were headed.
