Cargo Ship Ironhide Rescued After Engine Failure in Turkey

On August 5th, the general cargo vessel Ironhide, sailing under the Vanuatu flag, encountered engine failure while navigating Turkish waters on its voyage from Bulgaria to Israel. The breakdown took place near Cape Karanfil in the Dardanelles Strait around 10:30 p.m. local time.

In response, the Turkish Directorate General of Coastal Safety (KEGM), in coordination with the Çanakkale Ship Traffic Services Centre, initiated an emergency rescue operation. By approximately 2:40 a.m. on August 6th, the 78-meter-long vessel was successfully towed and secured at the Karanlık Liman anchorage.

The Dardanelles is a narrow, high-traffic maritime route connecting the Aegean Sea with the Sea of Marmara. Mechanical issues in this strait can pose serious navigational hazards, both to the affected ship and to other vessels transiting the area. Fortunately, no injuries or environmental damage were reported, and the operation was carried out efficiently.
