A troubling event occurred aboard the Costa Favolosa on Thursday, October 9, when a female crew member was reportedly sexually assaulted inside her cabin during the night.

According to early reports, an unidentified man gained access to the victim’s room using a key card and allegedly began touching her while she slept. The crew member woke up and resisted, causing the intruder to flee - possibly escaping into another cabin on the same deck. The suspect is believed to be another crew member, and investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from the crew corridors to identify the perpetrator.

The victim was promptly taken to Galliera Hospital in Genoa, where she received medical treatment and psychological support under the women’s protection program for victims of violence. Costa Cruises’ Care Team provided immediate assistance both on the vessel and ashore. The woman has since filed a formal complaint with local authorities.

In a statement to Italian media, Costa Cruises confirmed that the ship’s command was informed of the incident while Costa Favolosa was sailing toward Genoa, its next scheduled stop. The company emphasized that all internal safety and response protocols were followed and that it is cooperating fully with investigators.

Costa Cruises added that it is continuing to provide full support to the affected crew member and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for everyone onboard.
