Access to the Port of Maceió in Brazil was disrupted on Wednesday morning after dockworkers organized a protest that blocked traffic and caused concern ahead of the planned arrival of the cruise ship MSC Seaview.

The protest took place on Avenida Cícero Toledo in the Jaraguá district, one of the main roads leading to the port terminal. Demonstrators set up barricades and displayed banners reading “We are on strike,” resulting in long lines of trucks and other vehicles attempting to reach the port area.

By about 7:30 a.m., two of the three traffic lanes were closed, causing significant congestion that extended toward the Jaraguá parking area.

The timing of the protest is particularly significant because MSC Seaview is scheduled to arrive at approximately 10 a.m., bringing with it buses, taxis, and tour operators involved in passenger embarkation and shore excursions.

Dockworkers involved in the protest are calling for the full implementation of the INPC inflation adjustment in their wages, as well as reductions in health plan costs. They say these measures are necessary in order to end the strike.
