On July 15, the general cargo ship Spanaco Progress suffered an engine malfunction while sailing from Spain to Kocaeli, Turkey. The vessel encountered the problem near Gelibolu in the Çanakkale Strait.
Turkey’s Çanakkale Vessel Traffic Services Center quickly coordinated the response. A pilot was sent to the scene, and the vessel initially received support from the tugboat Rescue-3. Shortly afterward, it was taken under tow by Rescue-19 and brought safely to the Şevketiye Anchorage Area.
The ship, which was carrying cargo at the time, was anchored without any further complications. Authorities have not reported any additional issues following the incident.
