Oil Tanker ThaiLaemthong 8 Runs Aground Off Trat: Crew Safe
On September 17th, an oil tanker, the ThaiLaemthong 8, ran aground off the shores of Koh Kood, located in Thailand's Trat province. Local authorities were swiftly informed of the incident, and there is no immediate danger of the ship sinking.
The ship was caught in rough seas with waves reaching 2 to 3 meters high, which led to an engine malfunction. This caused the vessel to run aground at approximately 6:00 AM (local time). Although the hull of the tanker has been breached, the water intake is manageable, and the crew has been able to pump out water faster than it is entering the ship. All ten crew members are reported to be safe.
The ThaiLaemthong 8 was transporting green oil, a type of fuel commonly used by fishing vessels operating close to shore or in inland waters. The tanker was en route from Rayong province, delivering fuel to support fishing activities along the Trat border when the incident occurred. The ship has anchored near Koh Kood and is awaiting repairs.
