ONE and Hamburg Port Partner on Shore Power Development

On June 3, at the Transport Logistic 2025 trade fair in Munich, the Hamburg Port Authority signed a key agreement with Ocean Network Express (ONE) to expand the use of shore power at the Port of Hamburg.
As part of the agreement, ONE has committed to utilizing shore power at two of the port’s terminals—Burchardkai (CTB) and HHLA Container Terminal Altenwerder (CTA). Both sites are in the process of being equipped with shore power systems designed to supply electricity to docked ships, reducing emissions while vessels are in port.
ONE is actively participating in the integration testing phase of these installations and has demonstrated its support for the initiative by becoming the first shipping line to pledge use of Hamburg’s new shore power infrastructure.
Since May 2024, the Port of Hamburg has offered shore power capabilities for both cruise and container vessels, with systems already operational at Eurogate Container Terminal Hamburg (CTH) and HHLA Container Terminal Tollerort (CTT).
This collaboration marks ONE’s first shore power agreement within Europe, aligning with the company’s efforts to meet the upcoming FuelEU Maritime requirements, which call for zero-emission operations at ports by 2030.
By rolling out shore power capabilities ahead of regulatory deadlines, the Port of Hamburg is establishing itself as a frontrunner in sustainable maritime logistics and clean energy port practices.
