The inland passenger vessel Arminius, sailing under the German flag and carrying 170 people, was involved in a collision with an unidentified cargo ship on the Mittelland Canal in Hanover, Germany. The accident led to minor injuries for six of the passengers.

The Hanover Fire Department reported that the incident took place on June 20 at approximately 8:10 p.m. local time, in the area near the Noltemeyer Bridge. The collision occurred during an overtaking attempt by one of the two vessels involved.

After the crash, the 35-meter-long Arminius was brought safely to the canal’s edge, where emergency responders quickly arrived to assist with the evacuation. The injured passengers were treated at the scene, with no one requiring hospitalization.

Meanwhile, the freighter continued on its route and was later docked at the Anderter lock. According to the water police, the canal had to be temporarily shut down for several hours as a result of the incident.

Both vessels suffered damage, though the severity has yet to be determined. Authorities have confirmed that no fuel or hazardous substances entered the water, and there were no signs of environmental contamination.

An official investigation into the cause of the collision is currently underway.
