Riviera Travel to Launch Solo Traveler Ship in 2027

Riviera Travel has announced the launch of the first river cruise ship dedicated exclusively to solo travelers. Starting in June 2027, the George Eliot will operate solo-only departures along the Danube, Rhine, and Moselle rivers.
“At Riviera Travel, we are passionate about evolution and innovation, as demonstrated throughout our 40-plus year history, and the launch of this first-of-its-kind program is a prime example of the way we’ve continued adapting our business to meet the changing needs of travelers,” said Stuart Milan, president of North America for Riviera Travel.
“Our solo river cruises are among our most popular itineraries. With growing demand for even more solo departures, we knew it was time to dedicate an entire ship to this thriving segment of the market,” Milan continued. “With this announcement, we are proud to take the next step in redefining solo travel and to offer an all-new luxury river cruise experience.”
Currently, Riviera offers over 20 dedicated solo sailings each year, mainly during spring and fall, with private cabins included and no additional single supplement. By assigning a full ship to solo cruising, the company will provide more flexibility, allowing travelers to sail during both peak and off-peak seasons.
Beginning in June 2027, the George Eliot will offer four seven-night itineraries:
- The Blue Danube for Solo Travelers
- Rhine Cruise to Switzerland for Solo Travelers
- Rhine & Moselle for Solo Travelers
- Rhine, Strasbourg & Heidelberg for Solo Travelers
The ship will be tailored for solo guests, featuring private double cabins - 83 percent with French balconies - plus communal areas such as a lounge, bar, and sundeck. Guests can also expect a welcome dinner, cocktail reception, daily entertainment, and no single supplement.
An all-inclusive package will cover meals, excursions, and a full-day drinks plan. Each itinerary will include a dedicated cruise director, hotel manager, and guided daily excursions with local experts.
Bookings are now open for the 2027 solo sailings.
