Royal Caribbean Group has revealed that Richard Fain, its longtime Chairman of the Board, will step down from his position in the fourth quarter of 2025. Fain has been a pivotal figure in the cruise industry since taking on the chairmanship in 1988, helping to define the direction of modern cruising. He will continue to serve on the company’s Board as a Director following his departure from the chairman role.

Jason Liberty, the Group’s current President and CEO, will take over as Chairman. Liberty has led Royal Caribbean Group since January 2022. His appointment to the dual role of Chairman and CEO was unanimously approved by the Board of Directors, underscoring their trust in his ability to steer the company into its next phase.

“Richard’s leadership has been transformational,” Liberty said. “It’s an honor to follow in his footsteps, and I’m excited to continue delivering exceptional vacation experiences for our guests and long-term value for our shareholders.”

Fain expressed strong support for Liberty’s leadership. “It’s time to hand over the wheel to the next generation. Jason’s leadership has already been outstanding, and I believe Royal Caribbean Group is in the best hands for its next chapter.”

In a related announcement, Royal Caribbean Group confirmed that John Brock, who has served on the Board since 2014 and brings executive experience from Coca-Cola Enterprises and InBev, has taken on the role of Independent Lead Director.

Michael Bayley, President and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, praised both leaders and acknowledged Fain’s lasting influence. “It’s a great continuation of leadership for RCL,” Bayley said.
