On June 23, the Navashino, a Russian-flagged cargo ship transporting a wheat shipment, ran aground at the 874-kilometre point on the Volga River, near the Balakhna cargo corridor in Russia.

According to the Volga Transport Prosecutor’s Office, there were no injuries reported in connection with the incident. The ship’s hull sustained no damage, and no fuel or oil leakage was observed. A pusher tug was dispatched to assist, and the vessel has now been successfully refloated and moved out of the shallow section.

Officials have initiated a formal investigation to determine the cause of the grounding.

The Navashino was constructed in 1962 and has a deadweight capacity of 2,071 tonnes. It is currently expected to arrive at the Port of St. Petersburg by July 28.
