Shanghai Minsheng Orders Two Feeder Ships from New Dayang

Shanghai Minsheng Shipping has reached an agreement with Chinese shipbuilder New Dayang for the construction of two 1,100 TEU feeder container ships.
Industry sources indicate that the vessels are slated for delivery in September and December of 2027. Estimated costs for each ship range between $22.5 million and $24 million, according to shipbrokers familiar with the order.
Founded in 1985 as the Shanghai division of Minsheng Shipping, the company specializes in short-sea liner services and operates both domestic and international container routes within the Yangtze River region. Current fleet data shows Shanghai Minsheng operates a single feedermax vessel, the Hai Men, built in 2011.
New Dayang, a subsidiary of state-owned Sumec Group, primarily focuses on building bulk carriers—especially its Crown 63 Plus ultramax design—and currently has over 100 ships on order. The deal with Shanghai Minsheng marks only the second container vessel order for the yard, following an earlier contract with X-Press Feeders in 2021.
Additionally, New Dayang diversified into tanker construction in early 2025, taking an order from Singapore-based Adhart Shipping for four 50,000 DWT product tankers, with delivery expected between 2027 and 2028.
