Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) has appointed former head of the Shanghai transport commission Yu Fulin as its new chairman.

The company stated that Yu was unanimously elected by the board and will also lead the strategy committee.

Yu, a senior engineer born in March 1967, currently serves as a member of the 12th Shanghai municipal committee of the Chinese Communist Party and is a representative to the 12th Shanghai Municipal Congress of the CCP.

He succeeds Gu Jinshan, who stepped down as chairman and director on July 11 after reaching the mandatory retirement age. SIPG president Song Xiaodong had been handling the chairman’s responsibilities in the interim.

SIPG first announced its intention to recommend Yu Fulin for the position on November 10.
